How to Use the Silent Hill: Townfall CRTV, Plus Every Signal Location

Updated

Quick answer: the Silent Hill: Townfall CRTV is Simon's pocket TV. Raise it with L1 and tune with L2 / R2 until the marker lands in the box. Radio transmitters also need their colours lined up with the D-pad, then R2 to store. There are 18 signals to find for the Sweeping Signals trophy.

What the Silent Hill Townfall CRTV does

The CRTV replaces the series' classic radio. Tuned to unstable analog signals, it does three jobs:

  • Warns you about monsters. Static builds up when threats are nearby, so check it before you leave a room.
  • Plays story fragments. Tuned signals show short videos of St. Amelia's past. These are the 18 signals that count for the trophy.
  • Gives puzzle clues. Several puzzles need a broadcast. In Part 1, channel 60 in Room 204 gives the date for the bathroom door, and in the pharmacy the broadcast gives the order of the locker digits.

Only Simon carries the CRTV. Zoe and Richard don't (Zoe tracks threats with a pager instead), so there are no signals to collect in Part 5.

Tuning a signal

  1. Raise the CRTV with L1.
  2. Turn the dial with L2 and R2, slowly. Flat static gives way to a band of colour as you get close.
  3. Stop when the marker lands in the box, and confirm.

These are the PS5 controls; other platforms use the matching triggers.

Radio transmitters: aligning RGB

Some signals come from radios in the world. Interact with the radio, then:

  1. Hold the picture steady. Tilt the controller (or use the right stick) until the colours on screen stop drifting.
  2. Align the colours. Use the D-pad to push the red, green and blue channels into their matching frames, one at a time.
  3. Store it. When the Align RGB Signals bar fills, the screen reads "Calibration Complete". Correct the tilt once more if the picture has drifted, then hold R2.

If the colours keep sliding, fix the tilt first. Moving the colours while the picture is unsteady doesn't work.

Motion controls: on PS5 you can switch off Enable CRTV Motion Sensor Controls in the control settings. The right stick then handles the tilt.

Tracking enemies

The CRTV is your early warning in every Simon section. Raise it before stepping into a corridor, wait for the static to fade, and move when it's quiet. It's the easiest way to sneak past monsters, and every kill you avoid helps toward the Justice ending (see the ending calculator).

Enemy-tracking channels don't count toward the Sweeping Signals trophy; only signals that play a video do.

Channel numbers are approximate; tune slowly around them. "Tune" means a frequency you find with the dial; "Radio" means a transmitter that needs the RGB alignment.

How many Silent Hill Townfall CRTV signals are there?
18. Viewing all of them unlocks the Sweeping Signals trophy, and your progress carries over between playthroughs.
How do you align the RGB signals on the CRTV?
First hold the picture steady by tilting the controller (or the right stick) until the colours stop moving. Then use the D-pad to push each colour into its box. When the bar fills, hold R2 to store the signal.
Can you turn off the CRTV motion controls?
Yes. On PS5, switch off "Enable CRTV Motion Sensor Controls" in the control settings, and the right stick controls the tilt instead.
